Christ Dustow once again
made it look all so easy
as he stormed home to a well deserved win.
Round 3 of the 2011 South West Enduro
Championship, sponsored by Thor motorcycles was staged by the Camel Vale
Motorcycle Club on Sunday 17th April at Hustyn Woods near Wadebridge.

As Experts wait for the
'Off', Rod Dyer has a serious face about
something, but whatever it is Elaine is certainly finding it amusing!
The eleven mile course plus a long and
technical special test consisted of a variety of both mixed woodland and
typical forest going, which had been laid out in a series of steep
meandering valleys. Once again this year the whole course was bathed in
glorious sunshine - which attracts many tourists to Cornwall in the
summer - but this wasn’t going to be a holiday for the 120 riders who
keenly signed in by any means. Because despite the superb condition of
the track on the day, as expected, the undulating terrain gradually wore
many of competitors down.

Mike Williams charged hard
all day, but in the end had to settle for 4th.
After eight long laps Thor Motorcycles
Gasgas mounted Chris Dustow comfortably took the win in the Championship
class with four very consistent test times - which only varied by 8
seconds. Suzuki rider Nick Life was down on power and seriously hampered
after colliding with a stump and flattening his exhaust pipe, but still
managed to hang on to second spot. Richard Tucker riding a KTM was third
and Shaun Martin on a Gasgas rode to a creditable fourth.

Nick Life down on power
cruised home on second place.
Ross Blackmore won the seven lap expert
class from fellow KTM rider Gary McCoy and Josh Gotts, who riding a 125
TM chased home in third. He was followed closely by Tom Merritt on a KTM
taking fourth and Suzuki mounted Mike Williams in fifth spot.

Stuart Cooper rode well in
the Sportsman class taking a 2nd place gold.
In the Expert Over 35’s Charlie Richards
victory was made even more impressive as he rode the last two laps minus
his rear brake calliper which had been ripped completely off his KTM.
Andrew Pownall on a Gasgas took second but only just, as Yamaha mounted
Richard Jay charged hard on all four of his special tests and was only
two seconds behind by the end of the day, which netted him third place.

All the Clubman classes completed six laps
and three tests each. In E1 Gareth Marshall riding a 125 KTM continued
his winning ways from Ben Johnson on a Yamaha, who was followed closely
by KTM rider Chris Bennetto. Making an impressive debut in this class
was Cameron Young who only recently turned 16, yet he managed to finish
5th in this his very first event.

In E2 Peter Wilson riding a Honda CR250 took
a narrow win from Daniel Richards and Richard Philp who were both KTM
mounted. TM rider Kevin Martin chased hard for fourth.

Scott Medlyn took a comfortable win in E3
from Martin Froggatt and Trevor Nation, who were all KTM mounted.

In the hotly contested Over 40’s the first
four were also KTM mounted, Geoff Varker scraped a narrow win from
Hannes Tanzer, Chris Willams third, Chris Shorey fourth then Arthur
Johnson on a Gasgas fifth and Chris Luscombe on a TM sixth.

'Over 40' entrant Rod Mclean
wheelies for joy on his last lap.
The KTM story continued for the Sportsman
class with Richard Holmes taking the win after completing two tests and
four laps from Stuart Cooper and third place Dave Muller.

Round four will be on June 12th by the Camborne and Redruth Motor Club.
