Daryl Boulter in flying Expert action at Whiteway
Following a terrific battle of enduro
stars, Daryl Boulter just edged out Tim Lewis for top honours in the 2nd round of the Hewitt National cross-country championship held at
Whiteway, near Dursley on Sunday. Boulter's winning margin was 1 minute 26 seconds after completing 20 laps of the three hour marathon event,a total matched by late entry Lewis.
Earlier in the day, over 200 riders had come under starters orders for the latest Midwest MCC
promotion, with the Experts class leading the eager pack away to tackle the near-perfect conditions of a 5 mile track featuring a clever mixture of both enduro and motocross type
terrain. First man past the checkpoint on the completion of lap one was Brad Williams before a determined Tim Lewis took control of proceedings on just the very next
circuit.
After starting last in the Experts group, all eyes were on a very rapid Daryl
Boulter, and by lap six he was just a single second behind Lewis. From here onwards a thrilling 125cc shootout
exploded, with the blue TM of Lewis and the red Husky of Boulter producing an amazing turn of speed, racing almost side by side for several
laps. Even when Boulter took control, Lewis remained in close company, with both riders even remarkably posting a final lap time of 9 minutes 55
seconds. Recording a great result for both 125cc and two-stroke power,
Boulter eventually took the win from Lewis, Jason Fraser, Darren Wheeler,
Brad Williams, Jamie Padget and Martin Jakeman. In the Hewitt championship
stakes, Fraser, another two-stroke rider, has increased his series lead to seven points ahead of Williams.

Andrew Collins(512) and Martin Davis(513) lock horns in battle.
In the Clubman two-stroke
class, Richard Maisey, Anthony Williams, Roger Billam, Terry Beecham, Guy
Mansfield-Smith, Geraint Coombes and Paul Davies all completed 17 laps. It was though experienced Wiltshire rider Maisey who was to take the
win. At the finish, Maisey was 2 minutes 25 seconds ahead of Williams. On his 300cc
KTM, Maisey had already won the opening round of the Hewitt series and on current form he is certainly the man everybody in this class will have to beat if they want to get their hands on the championship title, but with another 7 rounds to come the battle is far from over.Like
Maisey, another first round winner was also successful in the Clubman four-stroke
contest. Along with Stuart Keedwell, Matthew Bath,Malcolm Lean and Ian
Wathen, the eventual victor David Wathen had recorded a total of 17 laps.
With the three hours completed, David Wathen was nearly a full three minutes ahead of eventual runner-up
Keedwell, another rider with vast motorcycling experience.
On his 250cc Honda, Dane Palmer produced a strong performance in the Sportsman two-stroke class to finish a full lap ahead of his rivals. In the battle for the runners-up
slot, Lee Witt got the verdict 32 seconds infront of Nick Dunn and Edward Hennessy who had all completed 15 laps.In the Four-stroke Sportsman action,Ryan Baker on his big 450cc VOR completed 17 laps,a full circuit ahead of his closest rivals Mark
Woodman, Reg Jenkins and Andrew Rogers. Producing one of the closest finishes of the day,runner-up Woodman was just 11 seconds faster than Jenkins.
Repeating his win at
Chavenage, Gerald Poole was again first man past the flag in the Veterans class at
Whiteway. Aboard his 250cc KTM, Poole recorded a 17 lap total, one better than Martin
Coleman, Andrew Collins, Robert Shore, Gary Clarke and Terry Hoskins. The next Midwest MCC action featuring round three of the Hewitt National series is due to take place on 15th April.
