A Tweelie Nice Idea!

Would this technology work with off road bikes ?

Introducing the new Michelin 'Tweel' - which gets rid of the tyre sidewalls, air valves and tubes completely. - Its a sort of tyre and wheel combo.

Only for cars at present, but Michelin created the Mouse tube for trucks!

These tyres are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market for cars very soon. The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on them!

Looks spooky at speed on a car - as if it is floating in mid air!

This is what great R&D will do and Michelin always seem to be at the forfront of new ideas.

Just think of the impact this design would have on existing technology:

  • no more air valves

  • no more need for air compressors
  • no more need for expensive mouses
  • no more repair kits

I think its radical thinking and will have a lot of good uses. But in my opinion - Road comfort and a quiet ride will not be two of them!

But for Off-Road bikes - now were talking!!!

It appears to deform well over bumps - but if it doesn't do it
fast enough it would be a hard ride.

These could be absolutely brilliant for hard off-road use, so if you want them, you'r gonna have to write to Michelin and tell'em.

Note: Remember it was Michelin who came up with the mouse idea about 15 years ago. People laughed then. But look how many top enduro stars use them now!
