HEAVEN and HELL'2

- 'The Second Coming'

Chilli Video's 'The Second Coming' captures young wild Brits at their best!

A HEALTHY MIX OF INSANITY, DISRESPECT & HARD RIDING!

Since its release in 2001, Heaven & Hell has singularly put UK FMX on the world stage. Now, its sequel Heaven & Hell The Second Coming showcases just how far the upstarts have come.

This week Christmas came early, as the latest Chilli / Duke production a Freestyle Video arrived through the letterbox to review. The excitement wained a little when I realised they had sent a DVD, as no one in our house possses a DVD player. This caused frantic action Saturday night when we went to watch it - because as usual nothing was worth watching on terrestrial TV !. In the end we scrounged an old laptop which played DVD's, so finally the family sat around the kitcClick the image & download a big photo of Jamie Squibbhen table watching the evenings entertainment!

But don't panic you hard spending racers - They do also supply it on VHS videotape.

Initially I was anxious about what we were going to see. But my fears were allayed. Chilli had come up with some great video action sequences - that literally blew me away.

My own family of off-road riders are not usually fans of FMX style videos - probably because we are very close friends of Jamie Squibb, Britains top freestyle star. And once you have seen Jamie with his buddies Brock and Taylor et al, performing their aerial antics for real deep in the woods, with no room for error - and you know you are going to be the one to call the ambulance out when a new trick goes horribly wrong. Watching it on tape afterwards doesn't have quite the same buzz. Probably because it seems so much safer! (Safer are you kidding Biker!)

But this is where Chilli excelled - Through fantastic bike and camera mounted helmet shots, you get a real feel of what it's like to be in the air alongside the riders - It doesn't feel good - but it's truly awesome!

Other reasons why I enjoyed it so very much - besides the brilliant filming, were quite personal. 1: They used two of my favourite playgrounds (No I don't get airborne, I just ride there.) 2: The music was great all through and well chosen for each bit of the film - including 2 of my favourite tracks. 3: My wife says I am not allowed to mention the scantily clad young girls getting filled in as they 'play around' in the Welsh mud! ;o)

Heaven and Hell ‘The Second Coming’ ignores the California cliché, instead it celebrates the down to earth grit that makes the UK scene so core.

The UK FMX scene now has a real energy about it. There are the red-hot established riders like Brock, Taylor and Squibb at the top of their game, and the fresh young rippers like Dave Wiggins who at just 18 is already showing huge potential. The Second Coming is all about showcasing this talent and delivering the best UK action ever caught on film

No room for error in this tight woodland.

The film is centred around the top FMX spots in the Country, in the main post industrial wastelands that despite their grime have become quintessential proving grounds for the UK scene. Graded MX tracks it is definitely not about.

From the mountains of Wales to the plains of Norfolk, and beaches in Cornwall to scrap-yards in Somerset the film is a mixture of secret freeride spots and riders' backyard set-ups. The film is about the riders on their home turf, because that’s where they perform best.

Heart-stopping action from First to last.

Events include NASS, Plymouth Dirty Weekend and a crazy on-the-beach session in front of thousands at Newquay’s famous Fistral Surf Masters.

The film is a high quality production. 16mm is used extensively, whilst bike and body mounted mini cams give fresh views that really bring a whole new feel to the action.

Perfect practice makes perfect.

In addition to all the action, the film also features footage of riders learning 360s, blasting supermoto bikes, welsh girls getting wet & dirty and hilarious anecdotes about what the riders get up to when off their bikes.

Finally, the whole package is wrapped up in a thundering soundtrack that includes The Sex Pistols, Queens of the Stoneage and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Heaven & Hell ‘The Second Coming’ at time of review is priced at £16.99 on DVD, £14.99 on VHS, available from leading video outlets or direct from DUKE marketing.
