It's all about Timing...As the saying goes: 'From little acorns - big oak trees grow', and such it was that the Casimo Race Timer software was born
It was in early 2006 when Kevin Butt - the owner of K&M Motorcycles in Cullompton Devon, - asked one of his customers who he knew worked 'with computers', if he could write a software program to help manage race results for ASW (Action South West)
and would it be a simple task ?
That man was Simon Rutley-Frayne and although Kevin didn't know it at the time Simon was no stranger to writing specialist software, because he and his wife Caroline were already running The Casimo Group Ltd., and had been responsible for some very trick office software, even writing some software for NASA (yes the space agency).
Simon left Kevin's motorcycle shop and said he would have a think about it - Thus the seeds of 'Race Lap Timer Pro' was born.

Although initially a simple affair, Casimo (AKA Simon & Caroline) surprised everyone when they turned up at ASW's next race only a few weeks later with a very impressive - if a little basic at this time - fully functioning rider logging and race timing, lap counting system on their laptop. - and what a success it was!
Since that first trial, Casimo constantly developed their timing software week by week throughout that first year and at every race the system proved itself again and again. What initially had started off as a simple rider list with laps counted and finish time in version '3.1', had now become a massively impressive tool in the current 5.2 version, with so many clever features, that it's probably best if I just list a few of them:
Leader Board - This provides a 'live view' of the current race leaders on a monitor for all to see.
- In my opinion an awesome feature which provides great interest and entertainment for the spectators and crew.

Race Lap Timer Pro can be used in conjunction with or without transponders. If using the transponders you can conveniently assign transponders to the corresponding entrant numbers before the meet then simply load the information for each race, you can even assign transponders to late entries for each race on the day.

Signing on Utility
Cleverly the Signing On utility contains an added feature called CheckBack which checks that all your transponders have been returned. So at the end of the event running CheckBack will produce a list of any missing transponders along with the details of that entrant.

With the Casimo timing system race results are immediately ready for printing as the race finishes, allowing them to be posted within minutes. Allowing competitors to view their lap times and finish times and of course the results can also be saved and uploaded to the internet.
and it even has the ability to catch out cheats!!
So where is it all going from here?
Simon was very excited to inform me that their timing software is currently setting precedence for official accreditation by the MSA (an affiliate of the RAC).
Although initially designed for hare & hounds and hare scrambles events. The program is so flexible that Casimo are now being approached by downhill mountain bike and 4x4 clubs.
Interestingly Casimo have just trialled their latest - Staged Start Version - with East Devon 4x4 off-road club. (Now I wonder if this version could also be used for proper timecard enduros? A question I will have to ask Simon when I see him next! )
Due to the immense success Race Lap Timer Pro has had over the last year. Enquiries have been coming in thick and fast from all around the globe, so versions in Italian, French, German and Spanish will shortly be on the menu!
